Teen Patti, "three cards", is the South Asian cousin of three-card poker and a fixture of family card evenings. Online and live casino versions usually turn it into a player-versus-dealer game with fixed payouts, which is quite different from the bluffing version played at home. Either way, everything rests on the hand rankings. This guide lists them with the real odds of being dealt each one, explains how casino tables work, and shows how to judge a bonus side bet with simple arithmetic.

Hand rankings, with the odds

A standard 52-card deck gives 22,100 possible three-card hands. Counting how many of them fall into each category explains the ranking order: rarer hands rank higher. Note that a sequence (straight) beats a colour (flush), the opposite of five-card poker, because with only three cards it is harder to make a run than to match suits.

Why trail outranks pure sequence

Look closely and you will see that trail (52 hands) is very slightly more common than pure sequence (48 hands), yet trail ranks higher. That is tradition rather than maths, and casino versions keep it. It makes little practical difference, because both hands are so rare that a regular player sees one only occasionally.

A more useful fact is how often you hold nothing at all: about three hands in four are high card only. Patience and a fixed stake are part of the game.

How live and casino Teen Patti works

Most live casino versions deal one hand to the player position and one to the dealer. You place an ante, see your cards (in some formats) and decide whether to continue with a further "play" bet or fold. The dealer may need a minimum hand, such as queen high, to "qualify"; if the dealer does not qualify, the ante often pays and the play bet is returned. Other formats are simpler, with bets on Player A, Player B or a tie, settled with no decisions.

Because rules differ so much between versions, the info panel on each table is essential reading. It lists qualification rules, ante payouts and any bonus payouts for strong hands.

Valuing a side bet: a worked example

Many tables offer a "pair plus" style side bet that pays on any pair or better. Suppose, hypothetically, a table pays 1 to 1 on a pair, 4 to 1 on a colour, 6 to 1 on a sequence, 30 to 1 on trail and 40 to 1 on pure sequence. Using the counts above, the expected return per ৳100 is: pair 16.94 × 1, colour 4.96 × 4, sequence 3.26 × 6, trail 0.24 × 30 and pure sequence 0.22 × 40, which sums to roughly ৳72.3 in winnings, plus your stake back on those wins (about ৳25.6), against a ৳100 bet. That leaves a cost of about ৳2 per ৳100, or roughly 2%.

Change one number, say pair pays 1 to 1 but colour drops to 3 to 1, and the cost rises by about 5 percentage points. That is why reading the payout list beats guessing. Our blog has more step-by-step expected value examples.

Questions and answers

Why does a sequence beat a colour in Teen Patti?

With three cards there are fewer ways to make a sequence (720 hands) than a colour (1,096 hands), so the rarer hand ranks higher. In five-card poker the opposite is true, which is why players who know poker sometimes get this wrong.

Is A-2-3 a sequence in Teen Patti?

In most rule sets, yes, and some even treat A-2-3 as the second-highest sequence behind A-K-Q. Rules vary, so the table's info panel is the place to confirm how aces are treated in sequences.

Can I bluff in live casino Teen Patti?

Usually not. Casino versions are player-versus-dealer with fixed rules, so there are no opponents to bluff. Bluffing belongs to the traditional multiplayer game where players bet against each other.

What does "dealer qualifies" mean?

Some tables require the dealer to hold a minimum hand, often queen high, before the play bet is settled normally. If the dealer fails to qualify, the ante typically wins and the play bet is returned. Check the table rules for the exact condition.

How do I find stake limits for Teen Patti on PJOK?

Open the table in the PJOK lobby and read the info panel, which lists minimum and maximum stakes. We could not confirm limits ourselves, and they vary between tables. Choose one where the minimum is a small share of your session budget, so a few weak hands do not end your evening.

Every bet has a cost. Budget it like any other spend, never borrow to play, and stop when it stops being fun. Responsible gaming
